WebIf I'm not mistaken, if you get water out of the rain collector just like that it is going to be tainted. On the other hand, if you place it above the sink, and connect the two together, the actual filter in the sink makes it safe to drink. I don't know if watering plants with clean water it's better, but using tainted water for watering plants is not going to poison your food anyway.
